The Merz b. Schwanen story is one of success in traditional manufacturing revival. Originally founded in 1911 by Balthasar Merz, the brand produced clothing in the German Swabian Mountains, a region known for its garment production. After their closure years later, Peter Plotnicki, stumbled upon the aging factory and its vintage machinery after a bread crumb trail that all started with a special flea market-find. Plotnicki brought the factory back to life, and the Merz family, inspired by his enthusiasm, permitted their name to be used once more. Using authentic designs, only the best in materials, and of course, those original machines, the Merz b. Schwanen brand is once again alive, making some of the finest and well made cotton basics in the world.
