Trunk's Edward Reubin on Tailoring and Personal Style

Edward joined the Trunk team as Head of Tailoring earlier this year and has already made his mark, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep passion for tailoring and made-to-measure craftsmanship. Based at our London shop, Edward and the team welcome clients for made-to-measure appointments and guide them in exploring and refining their personal style.

At Trunk, we offer a range of custom services designed to make the tailoring experience both enjoyable and effortless. Our London and Zurich stores provide made-to-order and made-to-measure tailoring, along with custom shirts from MCR, Finamore, and a host of other brands. From discussing your preferred style and fabrics to refining the fit and selecting the finishing details, every step is carefully considered to create something that feels distinctly personal.

We sat down with Edward to learn more about his background and his thoughts on personal style.

Can you tell us about your background in the fashion industry?

I joined the industry when I was 21. After studying at a tailoring college in East London. I then found myself knocking on the doors of Savile Row looking for work. I then spent the next 10 years working in and around the street gaining skills in made-to-measure tailoring, bespoke coat making and pattern cutting.

What drew you to working with Trunk?

Trunk was always a store I had admired for years, mainly for the well curated collections season after season. The team were always one of the friendliest in the West End.

What does good tailoring mean to you

Good tailoring is a garment that not only looks good but feels great to wear.

I have always enjoyed soft structured tailoring made in a weighty English cloth. It follows the natural lines of the shoulders complementing the wearers shoulder line.

How do you approach helping someone find their own style?

I try to gauge what/how the person will be wearing their clothes. It’s great to have a conversation to help them notice what they naturally gravitate towards. I think it’s about finding a combination of easy to wear garments that makes the individual feel comfortable and confident.

What’s your go-to outfit for a day off?

I’d go with my navy double-breasted overcoat layered over a merino roll-neck, paired with Trunk Palmers chinos and Alden Norwegian split-toe shoes in cordovan.

If you could only wear one fabric for the rest of the year, what would it be - and why?

A classic high twist wool in either navy or grey. It drapes beautifully and holds its shape very well. I like fabric that is low maintenance and easy to care for.

Finally, what are some of your favourite pieces from the new collection?

My favourite pieces include the moss green Valstar Valstarino in reversible suede, the Echizenya wool serge pleated trousers in charcoal, the Alden for Trunk chocolate suede Norwegian split toe, the Gitman Vintage cashmere flannel shirt in navy, and the De Bonne Facture Austrian wool cardigan coat.

While Edward is based at our London store, he also visits our Zurich store on a regular basis to meet clients and take made-to-measure appointments.

If you’d like to know when he’ll next be in Zurich, visit our events page or get in touch with the team — we’re always happy to help you arrange an appointment.

A big thank you to Edward for sharing his insights and favourite pieces from the new collection.
