With spring officially here and summer just around the corner, now is the time to consider your tailoring needs for the season ahead. Whether for the office, travel, or a wedding, choosing the right fabric for the time of year and destination is essential. To set the tone, we asked Trunk’s Head of Tailoring, Edward Reubin, for his five favourite fabric bunches for the spring and summer season. Find his rundown below and discover these fabrics in-store, in both London and Zurich.
Spring Summer Fabric Picks
By Edward Reubin, Head of Tailoring at Trunk

01.
“Carnet de Voyage” from Maison Hellard
The Maison Hellard “Carnet de Voyage” bunch is a really well-considered selection of linens and linen blends, with a great mix of tasteful colours and easy-to-wear patterns — ideal for relaxed warm-weather tailoring. One that stands out to me in particular is the “HU08 Coniston Ink”; it’s a mid-blue linen and Fresco wool blend that has just the right balance of breathability and structure, and would make up beautifully as either a suit or a sport coat.

02.
“Ascot” from Drapers
The Drapers “Ascot” bunch features a strong range of 2 and 4-ply high-twist wools that are particularly well suited to summer suiting. They’re breathable, springy in the handle, and come in a good selection of colours, making them both practical and versatile. This would make up especially well as a work suit for travel, or equally as a wedding suit for a warmer climate.

03.
“Montecarlo” from Drapers
The Drapers “Montecarlo” bunch offers a vast selection of basket weaves in a wide range of colours, making it a great choice for summer sport coats. Towards the back of the book, there’s also a very interesting selection of lightweight wool seersuckers, which bring a bit more texture and character. These work well across jackets, suits, and even trousers, depending on how you want to use them.

04.
“Art Du Lin” from Solbiati
The Solbiati “Art Du Lin” bunch is a strong collection, built around a variety of linens, mostly in a matte, washed finish that gives them a relaxed, easy character. We’ve already been taking orders from it in preparation for the warmer months ahead, which says a lot. The use of a 3-ply yarn gives the cloth a bit more body and a springy handle, so it holds its shape well and makes up beautifully.

05.
"Tropical Breeze” from Dugdale
The Dugdale “Tropical Breeze” bunch is a selection of high-twist wools that make up beautifully and drape really well. The open weave gives them excellent breathability, making them particularly well suited to the warmer months ahead.
