Frieze London, alongside its sister event Frieze Masters, stands among the most influential contemporary art fairs globally, marking a highlight in the cultural calendar for both collectors and enthusiasts. The event consistently transforms the capital into a nexus of the international art market. For Trunk, it represents an eagerly anticipated occasion, when many of our global clients converge on the city.
To mark the occasion, we spoke with Larkin Erdmann, friend and customer of Trunk. Based in Zurich, Erdmann is both an art dealer and the founder of his eponymous gallery, Larkin Erdmann. His gallery, established in 2014, specialises in Post-War and Modern art, with a focus on painting, sculpture, and drawing. Erdmann has built close working relationships with the estates and foundations of the artists he represents, positioning his gallery at the forefront of the market.
As we delve into the details of his booth at this year’s Frieze, Erdmann also offers insight into his must-see exhibitions around London this October, and shares a few of his favourite spots for dining and unwinding during the fair. His recommendations provide a unique perspective on how to experience the city's vibrant art and culinary scenes.
Can you tell us what brings you to exhibit at Frieze Masters 2024?
This marks our fifth consecutive year at Frieze Masters, and we remain deeply committed to this extraordinary fair that celebrates an extensive range of art history. From the ancient relics of dinosaur bones to the treasures of medieval manuscripts and the masterworks of the 20th century, Frieze Masters offers a comprehensive journey through time and creativity.

And what can visitors expect to find at your booth this year?
At our booth, we will showcase a diverse selection of artists, but this year, we will place special emphasis on Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Surrealist Manifesto, penned by André Breton in 1924. This milestone in art history is a perfect moment to reflect on the profound influence of surrealism and its continued relevance today.

Can you recommend any other galleries or exhibitions in the city during the month of October?
London has been getting a bad reputation post-Brexit, but we still love the city, along with its galleries and museums. During Frieze week, there are some must-see exhibitions, including the impressive Van Gogh exhibition at the National Gallery. The Estorick Collection, likely new to many, has just opened a remarkable Antonio Calderara show that is truly exceptional.
Whenever I visit London, I make sure to stop by Sadie Coles HQ, an absolutely fantastic gallery. This time, they’re featuring a major Urs Fischer exhibition at their expansive Kingly Street space in Soho.
And where will you be eating and drinking during your stay?
When in London, I can’t resist the charm of its pubs. The Pelican in Notting Hill is one of my favourites—it has a welcoming atmosphere and excellent food. I highly recommend trying the newly revamped Allsopp's Pale Ale; it’s a great match with their perfectly cooked steak. Another pub I’m fond of is The Cow, a true London classic that never disappoints.
For a more refined dining experience, Wiltons in St. James is my go-to spot. It’s the epitome of traditional British dining, with exceptional service and an old-world charm that feels timeless. After a fantastic meal, I like to take a short stroll to Dukes Hotel, where Alessandro, the best bartender in town, serves up the most impeccable martinis. Trust me, you’ll want to finish your evening there with one (or two).
Finally, do you have any upcoming projects in the works after Frieze?
We’re excited to announce the opening of a new space in Zurich, which will debut with a Picasso exhibition. More details to follow soon.
You can find Larkin Erdmann Gallery at Frieze Masters, taking place from 9th to 13th October 2024 at The Regent’s Park, London.
