Whilst many of us begrudge the shorter days and colder temperatures, there is one thing that their arrival brings that we cannot help but get excited about, the winter coat. A good piece of outerwear will see you through the season and beyond, returning again year after year to offer comfort and warmth. Here at Trunk, we believe that investing in a coat or jacket that will stand the test of time is not only more sustainable, but also much more satisfying for the wearer.
Whether it be a timeless classic, like an overcoat; a new iteration of an iconic style, like the Valstarino from Valstar; or something with functionality at its core, like a Manifattura Ceccarelli parka, we have rounded up five of our favourite coats and jackets that are worth investing in this season.
Boglioli Wool K-Coat Overcoat
We begin our list with a classic navy overcoat from the Italian tailoring experts Boglioli. Just like their signature blazer model, the K-Jacket, this overcoat is unlined and unstructured and features an elegant tailored fit that will sit comfortably over the aforementioned jacket but could also be dressed down with denim and knitwear to sharpen up a more casual look. Mats has paired it with the Boglioli Flannel K-Jacket, Trunk Enford Merino Polo, Finamore Gaeta Classic Cotton Luigi Sport Shirt and Trunk Welbeck Trousers for some seriously stylish winter layering.
Manifattura Ceccarelli Wool Fisherman Parka
Next up is the Fisherman parka, a seasonal favourite from Manifattura Ceccarelli, who have been creating high-quality outerwear since 1998. This iteration is crafted from a textured wool outer and is lined with cotton and padded with pure new wool for extra warmth. It's styled here by Aidan, our London store manager, with the Trunk Berwick Shetland sweater and the Trunk Welbeck corduroy trousers in chestnut.
Valstar Padded Wool Valstarino Jacket
The Valstarino from Valstar needs little introduction. This flight jacket inspired blouson has gained icon status due to its timeless design and sheer versatility. This winter iteration is crafted from a specially treated wool cloth from Vitale Barberis Canocino, which has been developed with wind and water-resistant technology, and is padded for extra warmth. The result is a perfect marriage of style and practicality that will see you through the winter and well into spring. Styled here by Mats with the new Trunk Fareham sweater and Trunk Welbeck corduroy trousers in stone.
Trunk Devonshire Herringbone Tweed Overcoat
The Trunk Devonshire overcoat is a new addition to our in-house offering this season. With a classic A-line silhouette, the coat's perennial design can be dressed up or down with ease, pairing equally well with denim jeans and a chunky knit as it does with a tailored jacket and trousers. This version is cut from a herringbone cloth from Harris Tweed that offers understated style but also the hardiness of heritage wool to protect from the winter weather. Worn here with the Trunk Harley crewneck sweater, Incotex cotton chino trousers and the Trunk cashmere striped scarf.
Sealup Amalfi Short Wool Cashmere Peacoat
Our final pick is the Amalfi peacoat from Italian outerwear experts, Sealup. Founded in 1935, the brand is in its third generation of family ownership, and specialises exclusively in high quality raincoats and peacoats. Crafted from a luxurious blend of wool and cashmere, the Amalfi is the brands elevated take on this classic naval design, with its distinctive double-breasted fastening and wide lapels. It's worn here by Adrian, our Zürich store manager, with the Trunk Walden Geelong sweater, Trunk Seymour chambray shirt and Trunk Welbeck trousers.
