How To Pack For A Late Summer Holiday With Mats Klingberg

12 August 2021

As borders open up and a holiday is on the cards for many, we can't help but daydream of the perfect summer getaway. Luckily enough for us, our founder and director Mats Klingberg has the perfect suggestion for late summer travel, including where to stay, where to eat and even what to pack.

Where To Stay

The weather has been a bit all over the place this summer for many of us, so if you're looking for an end of summer escape with guaranteed sun, Greece is a pretty safe bet. With several islands and many places to discover, if you're struggling to make up your mind, I can highly recommend a combination of Athens with the islands of Paros and Antiparos, where there are lots of lovely beaches and restaurants to visit. With Aegean, Paros is just half an hours flight away from Athens it is very quick and easy to travel between the two. Once in Paros, to get to Antiparos you can either take the ferry or charter a boat, both of which take only about ten minutes, so you'll be on the beach in no time at all.

On Antiparos a new hotel called The Rooster just opened, so I would opt for a stay there or one of the villas that the lovely people at Five Star Greece can help you find and book.

Where To Eat

If you've got your own villa eating at home is, of course, a great option, but there is nothing better than an evening out to see what the local bars and restaurants have to offer. For food, both islands have got you covered and I can highly recommend Palm Beach Paros, Hello Mango and Siparos on Paros and the Beach House on Antiparos.

What To Pack

Now, all that is left to consider is what to pack, and for all of your holiday needs, Trunk has a carefully curated selection of late summer essentials. Here is a list of items that I will be including in my carry-on. First on the list is our Trunk George Linen Shirt in Light Blue, lightweight and super soft it is perfect for the Greek climate. The Trunk York Stripe T-Shirt is a nice way to add some pattern to your summer wardrobe and the understated grey and ecru stripe will pair well with any outfit, layer underneath a shirt with a pair of shorts or chinos. When it comes to shorts I will be packing the Trunk Hyde Garment Dyed Cotton Shorts, a summer staple if there ever was one, the Hyde shorts have a flattering and versatile cut so can take you from day to evening with ease. Another favourite of mine this season is the Fedeli Giza Cotton Long Sleeve Polo Shirt which is cut from smooth, organic Egyptian cotton, which works just as well paired alone with chinos or shorts as it does with a jacket. For chillier evenings, the Trunk Welbeck Regular One Pleat Cotton Trouser works just as well dressed up with a nice shirt as it does dressed down with a t-shirt or polo, perfect for cocktail hour and alfresco dining. Finally, it wouldn't be a holiday without a good pair of sunglasses, in a classic and timeless silhouette the Boston model from Ayame are the perfect way to protect your eyes from the late summer sun.

If this was not enough to tempt you to Greece this summer, then Monocle will be hosting their Quality of Life Conference in Athens from the 23rd - 25th September. With a host of thought-inspiring leaders in business, culture, design, urbanism and retail, be sure to secure your place before tickets are all gone.
