Having been in business for well over a century, Alden is less a brand and more an American institution. Founded in 1884 by Charles H Alden in Middleborough, Massachusetts, the family-run company has set the precedent for exceptional genuine-welted American shoemaking. Alden prides itself on its use of shell cordovan, which is one of the finest, and indeed rarest leathers in the world, produced in small quantities by the Horween Leather Company in Chicago. Shell cordovan is a vegetable-tanned horsehide leather, a batch of which takes a minimum of 6 months to produce and finish. It is chosen for its exceptional durability, and is reflective of Alden's expert choice of materials.

Emblematic of the New England tradition of shoemaking, Alden now stands as one of the few survivors of this school of production, the majority of Alden's peers having closed their doors over half a century ago. This means that there are very few brands that can offer the level of craftsmanship that Alden can. Be it the iconic Penny Loafer, or Alden's signature Plain Toe Blucher, the company imbues everything it creates with decades of amassed expertise, and a genuine love of the craft. Alden remains a family-owned company to this day.

At Trunk Clothiers we have a strong link with Alden, having stocked the brand since we first opened our doors in 2010. In addition to being one of the few UK stockists, we also maintain a collaborative relationship, working together regularly on exclusive, dual-branded limited edition releases, and holding special order events, which allow customers to order from Alden's extensive stock catalogue.
